SRHS Culinary Arts Department Caters Special Olympics Event
The Special Olympics of Florida held its annual event at the North County Aquatic Center in Sebastian, FL. The event hosted approximately 650 participants consisting of volunteers and sponsors from all over the state of Florida.
The Culinary Arts Department at Sebastian River High School has been responsible for the catering duties for the last five years. Beyond just working the event, the student volunteers began preparation for the event at least two weeks beforehand. This included ordering the food as well as prepping it. When the food arrived, 550 box lunches were made for the swim meet on Saturday and almost 600 spaghetti dinners made on Saturday evening, totaling close to 1200 meals. This was made possible with the help of over forty-five students that took part in the preparation, purchasing, set-up, serving, and clean-up.Some students even worked both shifts on Saturday for a total of over ten hours that helped them to earn volunteer hours for community service points.
We look forward to continued success and more student involvement next year with the Sebastian River High School Culinary Arts Department.
