About Sebastian River High School
| SRHS Mission Statement
Sebastian River High School first opened its doors to a “New Tradition” in August 1994. The school, costing over $27 million to build, occupies 173,043 square feet. Sebastian River High school was known as the 'Taj Mahal' of schools in Indian River County.
SRHS boasts a 3,000 seat sports stadium, 1,060 seat auditorium, 1,680 seat gymnasium, a state-of-the-art TV studio, a 6-½ acre land and aqua lab, and high tech vocational labs. In addition, a well maintained football field, 3 practice fields with lights, a baseball diamond and a softball field, 5 tennis courts, basketball hard courts, a cross country course, and an 8-lane synthetic surface track with Olympic steeplechase complete Sebastian's eighty-acre campus.
The main attraction is the central court yard area, littered with palm trees, whose branches extend a gentle shade over the area. Many gaslight lampposts adorn the courtyard, with a small stone shrine located near the main entrance that holds a time capsule from the first graduating class of 1996. The clock tower holds a time capsule from the first graduating IB class of 1998, holding their treasures for a future class to unearth.
The first year began with about 72 staff members and about 822 students. Now, fourteen years later there are over 190 on staff and over 2,000 students enrolled. As a result we as a school have begun to expand even more; in 2002 a new wing was added, allowing Sebastian River High School to house over 140 classrooms, making it one of the largest schools in Indian River County.
SRHS consists of several academies and teams, which prepare students for future endeavors and career paths. SRHS definitely lives up to the slogan Encouraging Innovation and Rewarding Excellence.

In 2007, Sebastian River High School pioneered implementation of the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) Program, now offered at both high schools in Indian River County.
On January 15, 2008, the Commodore Tom Adams Navy JROTC Complex was dedicated in his name, and now serves as a place where students in the Sebastian River High School Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps Unit can learn and excel.
