The purpose of this course is to provide students with the opportunity to acquire an in-depth understanding of the chronological development of the American people by examining the political, economic, social, religious, military, scientific, and cultural events that have affected the nation.
IB TWENTIETH CENTURY HISTORY

In this two year course students will embark on an in-depth study of 20th century issues: the evolution of world war, political movements, national and international challenges of one-party states, establishment and work of international organizations and the Cold War. Students will also study topics from the region of the Americas such as: the colonial period, wars of independence, evolution of new governments and confederations, Africans in the Americas, U.S. Civil War, late 19th century Latin America, Canada between confederation and the First World War, US in late 19th and early 20th century, Mexican Revolution, 20th century Caribbean countries, domestic policies, foreign policies, U.S. civil rights movement, women, indigenous peoples and minorities in the Americas, and hemispheric relations. Students will gain valuable knowledge about an ever-present world history that has direct bearing on current issues. This class is excellent for students who have an interest in history, politics, government, or sociology.
