Sports Eligibility
SDIRC follows the sports eligibility guidelines as set forth by the Florida High School Activities Association. To represent SRHS in an athletic contest, you:
- Must be under the age of 19 years, 9 months. If you reach this age during the regular season in a sport, you will not be eligible to begin competition in that sport.
- Must earn and maintain a cumulative un-weighted GPA of 2.0 or better in all courses taken.
In addition to the local requirements for participation, there are two major athletic associations in the United States that regulate who may participate in college sports: the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Additional information can be obtained in the guidance office.
NAIA ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
A college freshman must meet two of the following three entry requirements:
- Achieve a minimum combined score of 700 on the SAT or a composite score of 21 on the ACT
- Overall high school GPA of 2.0
- Graduate in top half of your graduating class
NCAA ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
- Apply online only for NCAA Initial eligibility clearinghouse.
- It is our recommendation that ALL student athletes maintain a minimum of a 3.0 GPA and register to take the SAT and/or the ACT. Eligibility is based on a combination of GPA and the SAT or ACT score. A lower GPA requires a correspondingly higher test score.
- In addition to meeting core academic requirements, the NCAA requires a minimum of a 2.0 GPA matched with a specific SAT or ACT score. Please see your guidance counselor for more information.
