The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop fundamental reading and writing skills and strategies to ensure successful literacy experiences.

The purpose of this course is to provide college prep instruction in English language skills including reading, writing, speaking, and listening in the content areas of literature and language, and in the study of World, American and British literature.

The Pre-IB/Pre-AP courses provide students with the tools necessary to move into either AP English, IB English, or Dual Enrollment College English. Students will study a variety of texts, both fiction and non-fiction.

LANGUAGE & COMPOSITION

This college level course offers in-depth study of a variety of discursive writings. Course objectives correlate with the College Board’s expectations. Students are expected to take the AP College Board Exam given in May. Prerequisite: GPA 3.0 AND English Teacher Recommendation.

LITERATURE AND COMPOSITION
#1001430 The purpose of this course is to study and practice writing and to study literature. Students will learn to use the modes of discourse and recognize the assumptions underlying various rhetorical strategies. Students will acquire an understanding of the resources of the language and of the writer’s craft. They will develop critical standards for the appreciation of any literary work and increase their sensitivity to literature as shared experience. Prerequisite: GPA 3.0 AND English Teacher Recommendation.

DUAL ENROLLMENT – ENGLISH

#ENC1101 – English Comp I - 1.0 credit (3 hours from the Community College)
#ENC1102 – English Comp II -1.0 credit (3 hours from the Community College)

This course presents the rhetorical principles of modern and classical essays, which in practical applications enable students to compose college level expository and argumentative essays. Student must produce 6000 words of acceptable written work.

ESOL LISTENING & SPEAKING I-II

The purpose of this course is to provide instruction to native speakers of languages other than English in the language arts skills of listening and speaking. Emphasis will be on the development of speaking and listening skills for basic communication in the home and in the school environment.

#10023600 – ESOL Reading/Writing II

The purpose of this course is to provide instruction to native speakers of a language other than English in the language arts skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
