Dual Enrollment

How to qualify for dual enrollment:

  • Must have an un-weighted GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Must have passed both parts of the FCAT test.
  • Must take one of the following tests; PERT, SAT, or ACT and meet the test score requirements.
  • PERT: English 99-150 or higher, Reading 104-150 or higher, math 113-122
  • SAT: English 440 or higher, Math 440 or higher
  • ACT: English 17 or higher, Math 19 or higher

Benefits of being a dual enrollment student:

  • Earn college credit and high school credit at the same time.
  • Full time dual enrollment class schedule is more flexible than a regular SRHS schedule.
  • Challenging coursework
  • Increased independence
  • Some students can earn an AA degree by the time they graduate from high school.
  • AA degree holders have excellent success/completion rate at the university level and are guaranteed admission into a Florida public college or university to earn B.S or B.A degree.
  • Dual enrollment courses are free if you meet the requirements.
  • IRSC offers a transfer scholarship for students who have earned their AA degree and are transferring to a four year Florida public institution.

Drawbacks of being a dual enrollment student:

  • Full time dual enrollment students do not hear/see SRHS announcements for ticket sales, events, assemblies, etc.
  • Some students miss their friends and feel isolated and alone
  • Parents are not allowed to call IRSC on behalf of their child; child must call.
  • Must follow IRSC rules for grading and attendance therefore may not be able to attend some senior events like Grad Bash.
  • Deadlines are not waived for any reason.
  • D's do not earn college credit and remain on the IRSC transcript even if the courses is retaken.
  • A course may only be taken once under dual enrollment. If a retake is needed, the student/family will have to pay for that course.
  • Financial aid for AA transfer students and scholarship opportunities may be less than enrolling as a college freshman.
  • Students who transfer without an AA degree may only get elective credit for some dual enrollment classes taken at IRSC.
