Report Card Format & Method of Averaging Semester Grades
Indian River County students will have the advantage of receiving nine-week grades with pluses (+) on them. The + can make it possible for a student to receive a higher semester average. There is also an effortless F on exams. If a student does not take a semester exam or does not study and makes 33% or less on the exam, the effortless F can result in a lower semester grade. It is hoped that these new policies will reward students who try hard and are at the top of the range for a given letter grade, and also insure that students take semester exams seriously.
Grade Point Average
Students are required to have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale. Any course grade not replaced according to the forgiveness policy will be included in the cumulative grade point average even if the student has more than 24 credits. (See Grade Forgiveness Rule on page 7.)
Grade Point Average Computation
- The GPA will be calculated for each grading period for the purpose of determining interscholastic eligibility.
- The GPA will be calculated at the end of each semester (January and June) and in August for those in summer school.
- If a course is repeated to improve the grade in the course, the lower grade will remain on the transcript but will be deleted from the calculation of grades.
