The IB Diploma Program is a two-year program beginning in the junior year. We offer four higher level (HL) courses and three standard level (SL) courses. In addition, students are required to take Theory of Knowledge (ToK); write an independent research essay (the Extended Essay), and complete 150 hours of Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) requirements. 2010 CAS HANDBOOK

At SRHS, students sign up for three (3) higher level classes and three standard level classes. Which classes they take depend on their strengths, interests, and on a discussion with the IB Guidance Counselor or IB Coordinator.

The following classes are available: DP Courses IB Biology (HL) IB English Literature (HL) or (SL) IB History of the Americas (HL) Spanish (SL) Math (HL) or (SL) and one of the following IB electives: Chemistry (SL) Social and Cultural Anthropology (SL) Visual Arts (SL) In each class, students have one or more IB required projects, essays, labs or other assignments. Criteria for these and their deadlines are determined by the IB program, so they can not be changed.

In addition, students are tested in Math (SL), Social and Cultural Anthropology (SL) and Chemistry (SL) at the end of the junior year. They are tested on their remaining subjects at the end of their senior year.

Refer to the CAS and Extended Essay page for additional information on these requirements.
