| On Saturday, February 16th, from 10am to 5pm, Vero Beach High School hosted its inaugural Dance Marathon. For 7 consecutive hours high school students stood on their feet in order to raise money for the Children's Miracle Network hospitals, like Shands in Gainsville. This event was in conjunction with the University of Florida Dance Marathon. On April 5th the VBHS Dance Marathon committee is going to present their check for $6,150 to the UF Dance Marathon. At this event, students were not allowed to sit down in order to see a glimpse into a child's life at a hospital. While they stood they listened to two inspirational Miracle Network families speak, played rock band, listened to a DJ, learned to swing and salsa dance, and sang karaoke. Every hour a prize was given away to a lucky dancer. The prizes included DVD players, Wal- Mart gift cards, gas gift cards, necklaces, and Vera Bradley purses. Also, each dancer learned a line dance that is unique to this dance marathon in order to bring everyone together in unity to show that they were all fighting for a common cause, to save the lives of children in hospitals. The VBHS Dance Marathon would like to thank the community of Vero Beach for the amount of support they gave the Dance Marathon. Each donation went to supplying food and entertainment, and most importantly, it went to sponsoring dancers. Vero Beach High School plans to make this a tradition and it couldn't be possible without the supportive community and student body.
